“Where Swans take Flight” - 2024 This is the last image of my new series. “On the Road” is a series born out of deeply personal experiences and reflections on the cycle of domestic violence—both witnessed and lived. As a child, I saw the impact of this cruelty up close and vowed to never find myself in such situations. But, as I grew older, I realised that breaking the patterns imprinted on us is often harder than we imagine. Despite my resolve, I found myself repeating familiar, damaging dynamics, unable to fully see or accept what was happening until much later. This series is my way of exploring why so many of us find ourselves caught in these cycles, reliving memories we long to escape. I aim to express the inner conflict: the fleeting moments of courage that spark a desire to leave, followed by the haunting doubt that keeps us bound to the familiar. For those who haven’t experienced it, understanding the invisible chains of domestic abuse can be difficult. It’s a complex entanglement of fear, hope, guilt, and isolation, where leaving feels like a step into the unknown, even if we know it’s what we need. On the Road is an invitation to reflect without judgment. My hope is that, by shedding light on these shadows, others might feel less alone in their struggles and find the strength to step forward on their own path.
